Transfer the Primary Owner role
Each organization has one Primary Owner, the owner with the final say. The current Primary Owner can hand the role to another owner from Settings → Members. The handover happens in a single step: the new person becomes Primary Owner and you become an ordinary owner.
Before you start
- The person must already be an active member with the Owner role. If they are an administrator or developer, change their role to Owner first. See Change a member’s role.
- If you use two-step verification, have your authenticator ready. Syntic asks you to verify before it makes the change.
Open the new owner’s menu
In Settings → Members, click ⋯ at the end of their row.
Choose Transfer Primary Owner
The option appears only for members with the Owner role, and only when you are the Primary Owner.
Confirm
Read the confirmation and confirm. When it succeeds you see a message that the person is now the Primary Owner.
If the organization has no Primary Owner yet, any owner sees Make Primary Owner instead, and can choose themselves or another owner.
What changes
| Before | After |
|---|---|
| You: Primary Owner | You: Owner |
| They: Owner | They: Primary Owner |
You keep full owner permissions. Only the Primary Owner can accept legal agreements such as a business associate agreement and turn on HIPAA mode.
If it fails
Verify your second factor first means Syntic needs your two-step verification code before the transfer. Click Verify, enter the code, and try again.
