Use an email code as a backup

Once your authenticator app is active, you can also allow a 6-digit code sent to your account email as a second way through the verification screen. It’s off unless you switch it on.

Turn it on

  1. Open Settings → Security and find Two-step authentication.
  2. With your authenticator active, an Email code (backup) switch appears. Turn it on.

You can only switch it on from a session where you passed the check with your authenticator app. A session unlocked with an email code or a recovery code isn’t enough. Switching it off works at any time.

Use it when signing in

  1. On the verification screen, choose Email (or Try another method, then Email).
  2. Syntic sends a message titled “Your Syntic AI verification code” to your account email.
  3. Enter the code and choose Continue. If it didn’t arrive, use Resend under “Didn’t receive an email?”.

Limits

LimitValue
Code length6 digits
Code lifetime10 minutes
Codes you can request3 per hour
Tries per code5

Too many requests give “Too many code requests. Try another method or wait an hour.” An expired or mistyped code gives “Invalid or expired code.”

An email code unlocks only the browser you used it in.

Should I use it?

It’s a convenient fallback, but it’s only as safe as your email account. If someone could get into your inbox, they could pass this step too. Protect your email with its own two-step verification, and keep your recovery codes as the main backup.
